Hair oil should be a finishing touch, not something you spend the rest of the day wishing you could wash out.
If you’ve tried it and ended up with flat, heavy-looking hair, you might assume oil simply isn’t for you. But before ruling it out, consider your starting point, how much you’re applying, and where it’s going.
At PËURR®, we believe a simpler routine is a better place to begin.
Start with a clean foundation
Some conditioners can leave more buildup than others, depending on the formula, how much you use, and how thoroughly you rinse. If your hair already feels coated or weighed down, adding oil may only add to that feeling.
At PËURR®, we believe hair oil gives the best results when you start with clean, well-rinsed hair, without unwanted product buildup. Our approach is to pay attention to what’s already on your hair before adding something else.
We also believe it’s common sense to question whether an industry built around shampoo and conditioner has much incentive to encourage a simpler alternative. We’re willing to ask: do you need every step in the routine you’ve been sold?
Our philosophy is to start with our olive-oil and goat-milk soap, rinse thoroughly, and let your own experience guide what comes next. Your routine should earn its place through results, not habit.
Start smaller than you think
One of the easiest mistakes with hair oil is using too much at once.
Begin with a drop or two, spread it between your palms, and lightly work it through a section of hair. You can add a little more if needed. Taking excess oil back out is considerably less convenient.
There’s no single amount that suits everyone. Short or fine hair may need very little, while longer or thicker hair may call for more. Let the way your hair looks and feels guide you, rather than assuming a full dropper is a serving size.
The goal is to find the smallest amount that gives you a finish you enjoy.
Put it where you need it
For your first application, focus on the mid-lengths and ends rather than saturating the roots.
This gives you a chance to see how your hair responds without immediately adding weight near the scalp. Distribute the oil lightly and evenly, then pause before applying more.
If your hair is short, use a particularly light touch. You don’t need to coat every strand heavily to find out whether a small amount works for you.
Damp or dry? Find your preference
Try a small amount on towel-dried hair, or use a light touch on dry hair as a finishing step.
You don’t need to change everything at once. Choose one approach, keep the amount small, and see how your hair looks and feels once it’s dry and styled.
Keeping the rest of your routine consistent makes it easier to work out what suits you. If your hair feels too oily, try less next time rather than immediately adding another product to correct it.
Let your hair guide the routine
At PËURR®, we don’t believe a longer routine is automatically a better one.
Our bars are made with olive oil as the only soapmaking oil and goat milk in place of all added water. Our scented bars use pure essential oils, never synthetic fragrance. They’re designed for face, body, hair, and shaving, reflecting our belief that personal care can be simpler.
That same philosophy carries through to our PËURR® Hair & Beard Oils: use them thoughtfully, start small, and decide what works for you.
Start with clean, well-rinsed hair, then discover what a little PËURR® Hair & Beard Oil can bring to your routine. Begin with a drop or two, apply lightly through the mid-lengths and ends, and adjust to suit your hair.
A simpler routine doesn’t mean going without a finishing touch. It means choosing one thoughtfully.
